Jaeyoung Chong, cello
EN: Jaeyoung Chong began studying cello at the age of 8, and quickly reached an advanced performance level. He immigrated to Canada from South Korean with his family in 2005. He has studied cello in the Maritimes with Shimon Walt. He placed first in the Senior Strings category at the New Brunswick Provincial Music Festival (2010), and won the Award of Distinction in the Senior Strings category at the Fredericton Music festival (2006). Jaeyoung participated in the FCMF (Federation of Canadian Music Festivals) National Music Festival for 3 seasons within solo class and chamber music class. Mr.Chong had been playing in the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra as section principal for the past four years. In 2011, Jaeyoung and the Orchestra toured in Austria and performed in the Musikverin Hall. Jaeyoung Chong attended music camps such as Domaine Forget and NAC Pre-College program and benefited from lessons and masterclasses with Paul Marleyn, Carole Sirois, Steve Doane, Matt Haimovitz, Hans-Jorgen Jenson, Thomas Wiebe, Blair Lofgren and Yegor Dyachkov. In February 2012, Jaeyoung auditioned and was invited to play in New York’s very own Carnegie Hall with the High School Honors Performance Series Orchestra. Jaeyoung was also accepted into one of the most prestigious orchestra in Canada called “National Youth Orchestra of Canada” and had the pleasure of sitting in the principal seat for few pieces within the repertoire. On 2013, Jaeyoung Chong performed with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra as a featured soloist and toured around New Brunswick. Jaeyoung is currently enrolled in Bachelor of Music Performance program at the University of Ottawa and benefiting himself through lessons, masterclasses and recitals.
